Dr. Rupa Renganathan
Breast and Women’s Imaging
The breast center at KMCH is led by Dr. Rupa Renganathan who has 15 years of experience in Radiology after her post-graduation from the Madurai Medical College and later at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences. She then completed her fellowship at the Royal College of Radiologists, United Kingdom. She further had specialist training in Breast imaging at San Diego University, The Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University and also at Toronto University.
She has been a governing council member of the Society of breast imaging and also one of the members in drafting guidelines for the society. She is currently a leader in performing minimally invasive procedures for breast tumours she continues to train people all across India and has the largest series in the removal of benign tumours of the breast. She has several publications in Indian and international journals.
Research Interest
Has done extensive research in ultrasound, MRI and 3D Mammography. Has published papers on the use of advanced sequences in differentiating types of cancer breast, the effect of Chemotherapy and the grading of tumors on imaging.
She has done one of the most pinhole procedures, for the removal of non-cancerous breast lumps in India. She has extensive experience doing image-guided biopsies for breast lumps. She also routinely does wire localization.
Dr. Rupa is the first doctor to start MR-guided biopsies for breast lumps.
She is the proctor for all breast interventions and conducts workshops in training other physicians in the Asia Pacific region.
